I was delighted to be commissioned to produce this ‘Selves Portrait’ for a collaborative exhibition between Manchester Art Gallery andNational Portrait Gallery for ‘Artists in the Frame: Self Portraits by Van Dyck and Others’. My work is displayed alongside other artists who nod to visual storytelling- Grayson Perry and William Hogarth but also Van Dyck, Sarah Lucas, Angelica Kauffman, Wyndham Lewis, Julian Opie and Sophie Ploeg. Go visit it in Manchester until 31st August.
My ‘Selves Portrait’ commissioned for Manchester Art Gallery and National Portrait Gallery Exhibition ‘Artists in the Frame: Self Portraits by Van Dyck and Others’ depicts the story of my many selves battling to be represented in the frame.
The National Portrait Gallery made a little film about it which you can view here:
My work was inspired by Van Dyck’s last self portrait and it’s frame which tells the story behind the self portrait.
Proximity to Greatness! My work is displayed besides Grayson Perry’s amazing ‘Map of Days’ where he envisioned his self as a walled city. William Hogarth, Angelica Kauffman, Wyndham Lewis, Sarah Lucas, Julian Opie and Sophie Ploeg also feature in the exhibiton.
